I have been in the roofing business for almost 30 yrs here in North Texas. During that time I have been witness to several major storms, namely the Cinco De Mayo storm that hit May 5, 1995. The worst hail storm in our history. Several people died that day due to softball size hailstones. The property damage was unimaginable, but nothing compared to what they are currently experiencing in Alabama with massive tornado damage. All roofs, I mean ALL roofs were demolished. I could list the different types, but the list is extensive. I witnessed complete ceiling collapse, this is sheetrock and attic insulation filling the living space of very elegant custom homes. Blue tarps multi-layered to hold out rain, but still leaking. Numerous, as many as 50, 5 gal buckets catching dripping water, as the homeowners had a glaring stare on their face, in shock over the experience. Sometimes I had to tell them it would be a year before we could get to the roof replacement. I said all this to make this point. The metal roofs I encountered were usually NOT leaking. Yes, they were hail damaged beyond repair, so replacement was inevitable, but life could somewhat continue as normal, until we could replace the roof. I have replaced metal roofs that were as old as 90 years old at the time of replacement. Weathering the fierce Texas storms for all those years. I replaced a roof on a home in East Fort Worth that was put on in 1930, so it was 65 years old at the time of this terrible storm, it was metal.
Metal roofs are impact resistant. Metal roofs are energy efficient, they are radiant barrier on top of the home. Metal roofs are very wind resistant, up to 200 m.p.h. winds. Metal roofs are very maintenance free. Metal roofs make a great investment in the home to save on insurance costs and claims. Metal roofs have curb appeal, so adding value to property. Metal roofs are fire resistant, able to save homes from wildfires. Metal roofs are green, recyclable, and non toxic. Metal can give great peace of mind when news of approaching storms nearing your property. We love metal roofs, you should try one, it will be the last roof you need.
