What Composition Roofing Is
Composition roofing is the asphalt shingle roof most North Texas houses already have: fibreglass mat, asphalt and mineral granules, installed in overlapping courses. It fits homeowners who want the lowest upfront cost, a straightforward insurance replacement, or a roof that matches the rest of the street.

Shingle Options
Architectural (laminated) shingles are the standard choice. They are thicker than old three-tab shingles, carry more wind resistance and give the roof depth and shadow line.
Impact-resistant shingles are made for hail country. Impact resistance is measured under UL 2218, where Class 4 is the highest class, and several manufacturers publish Class 4 shingle lines. Texas insurers set their own discounts for impact-resistant roofing, so ask your agent what your policy does with it; the details are on hail-resistant roofs and insurance.
When Composition Makes Sense
Choose composition when upfront budget is the deciding factor, when you plan to sell before a metal roof would pay off, or when an HOA or an insurance settlement points you there. Choose metal when you want to stop replacing the roof after storms. Composition Roofing Questions
Less than the same shingle would last somewhere without our hail. Sun, heat and storm cycles are what shorten shingle life here, which is why many of our customers move to metal after their second or third replacement.
It is the highest impact class under UL 2218, the standard used to test roofing against simulated hail. A Class 4 shingle has passed that test; it is not a guarantee against damage, and it does not automatically change your premium.
Sometimes, depending on the product and how much the existing roof has weathered. Bring us the roof and we will tell you honestly whether a patch will disappear or stand out.
