Standing seam is a metal roof made of long vertical panels joined by raised seams, with the fasteners hidden under the seam instead of driven through the face of the panel. That is the whole point: nothing exposed on the surface to back out, rust or leak as the roof expands and contracts in Texas heat.

Standing Seam Features and Options
Snap Lock and Mechanically Seamed Panels
Snap lock panels lock together by hand as they are set, which makes them the practical choice for most residential roofs and steeper commercial slopes. We offer hidden fastener panels in 24 and 26 gauge steel in a snap lock design.
Mechanically seamed panels are folded closed with a seaming machine after they are set. That is the system for low slopes and exposed buildings where wind and standing water are the concern. 24 Gauge or 26 Gauge
Gauge is panel thickness, and lower numbers are thicker. 24 gauge is the heavier of the two, holds a flatter face over long runs and is the usual pick for wide panels and commercial work. 26 gauge is lighter, costs less and is a sound choice on typical residential roofs. We stock both and will tell you which one the roof in front of us actually needs.

On homes, standing seam suits modern, farmhouse and hill country architecture, and it pairs well with copper accents on turrets, bay windows and porch roofs. Standing seam comes in a long list of colors and finishes, including the very popular Galvalume and mill finishes that keep a natural metal look. Lighter colors reflect more heat than dark ones, which matters in a North Texas summer, and Galvalume is a common choice for that reason.
