Copper Turrets
April 21, 2016 · By Classic Superoof
Hand-formed copper turrets for a Dallas-Fort Worth home, shaped on site and left to weather into a natural patina. Classic Superoof is a family owned metal,
Turrets are one of the few roof shapes that cannot be ordered from a catalog. Every panel on a cone tapers, so each piece is measured, cut and hand-formed to fit its own place in the circle. Our sheet metal crew shaped these copper panels on site, then soldered the seams so the whole assembly behaves as one continuous surface.
Copper was the right material for the job. It moves easily into curved shapes, it never needs paint, and it slowly weathers from bright penny to deep brown and eventually to the soft green patina people picture when they think of copper. Properly detailed, a copper turret outlives the people who commissioned it.
